Introduction and Menu Page for the Diary
This
is the website for the diary written by Sgt Keith Redd during his time as a
waist gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber during WW2. He was with the 8th Air Force and the 389th
Bomb Group based at Hethel, England. Hethel is north and
east from London in the area that juts out into the English Channel. The 389th consisted of 4 squadrons with a
total of around 50 B-24 Liberator 4 engine heavy bombers.
Because
of my interest in the WW2 air war over Germany the diary was loaned to me by my
son-in-law Matt Redd, the grandson of Keith Redd. The diary is small (4” wide x 6” high) and
somewhat difficult to read. It is getting fragile so I transcribed it word for word into a Word document. His description of air combat is well
written and a compelling account of what it was like.
